ABOUT

Michael surrendered to preach on February 13, 1994. His first full-time ministry opportunity was serving as a Youth Minister at Emmaus Baptist Church in south Oklahoma City. He eventually became the Associate Pastor at Emmaus and served the church for nearly seven years. At the end of 2000, Michael joined the staff at the First Baptist Church of Mustang.  Three years later, he became Senior Pastor where he continues to serve in that role.

Michael has been married to Marcy since May 18, 1996. They met while attending the University of Central Oklahoma. Marcy graduated with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and later attended the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, earning a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.  She is a gifted singer, avid reader, and a genuine do-it-yourselfer. There is basically nothing she cannot do! Michael and Marcy have two sons, Cael (1999) and Benjamin (2001).

After graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1994, Michael went on to earn his Master's degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Masters of Religious Education).  He then completed the Doctor of Ministry degree (emphasis in expository preaching) at the The Master's Seminary.

FAVORITES

Life Verse: I don’t have one specific “life verse” but there are a couple of verses that stay in my heart continually.  Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace he whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you.”  Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 9:16 says “…woe is me if I do not preach the gospel”.

Favorite book of the Bible: My favorite book for theology is Romans.  My favorite book for encouragement is Philippians.  My favorite book for practical living is James.

Favorite Bible character: I really love the book of Habakkuk and the personal change that you see unfold in the life of the prophet throughout the 3 chapters.  He was frustrated by the world around him, struggled with God’s plan, and then eventually came to the place of full surrender and confidence in the purpose, plan and sovereignty of God.

Books you would recommend: The Bible, Desiring God by John Piper, Spiritual Leadership by Oswald Sanders, Teach Them Diligently by Lou Priolo, The Trellis and the Vine by Marshall & Payne, Called to Lead by John MacArthur

Hobbies: Spending time with my wife, playing anything with my sons, doing yard work, lifting weights, and a competitive game of ping-pong.

Favorite Meal: If I have a little money in my pocket I would say a steak from Outback.  If I have someone else's money in my pocket, I'd pick Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.  If my sons have drained my wallet dry, I’d say Chic Fil A.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Anywhere a cruise ship takes me that is hot outside.

Favorite Sports Team: I’m a life-long OU Sooner fan and follow them very closely and passionately. I am also a huge OKC Thunder fan!
